Terre di Nano is a 19th century country estate, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and rolling hills. It offers spacious and charming accommodation which has been renovated with respect to local architecture.

Located in the UNESCO world heritage site of Val d´Orcia, a vast, beautiful countryside in southern Tuscany, close to the border with Umbria and on the slopes of Mount Amiata. The venue is approximately 20 minutes from the medieval town of Pienza and approximately 10 minutes from Montepulciano, famous for their renowned wine.

Terre di Nano offers panoramic views from the terrace towards Mount Amiata, an ancient volcano (emphasis on the ancient). Thermal water spas and several hot springs positioned throughout Tuscany use the Amiata volcano as a source for their warm waters. With views of Pienza on one hill, across to Montepulciano on another hill.

CLICK HERE if you wish to stay at the venue.

Please note, this is a first come first served basis.

FAQ

  • Where in Italy are we going?
Located in the UNESCO world heritage site of Val d´Orcia, a vast, beautiful countryside in southern Tuscany, close to the border with Umbria and on the slopes of Mount Amiata, in central Italy. Think cyprus lined trees casting shadows across an undulating vista. The venue is approximately 20 minutes from the medival town of Pienza and approximately 10 minutes from Montepulciano, famous for their renowned wine. Check the map in the footer of the website!
  • Where is the ceremony being held?
The legal ceremony will be held in Montepulciano, inside the historic Fortezza Montepulciano. Please note, this is a hill top town and needs some consideration if walking and driving around. We will accommodate as much as possible those less able, and will try to get drop off's as close by to the Fortezza as possible, which hopefully then will just be a gentle stroll inside! Conducted in Italian, but translated to English.
  • Where is the reception venue?
Terre di Nano will host the Welcome Party (Saturday 14th June) and the Reception (Sunday 15th June)
  • What are the nearest airports to the venue?
Perugia (San Francesco d'Assisi Airport PEG) is the nearest, approx. 1 hour 15 minute drive to Terre di Nano. At departures here, don't expect a duty free perusal, there is one very small cafe! This is a very relaxed airport, so don't be ambitious and arrive 3 hours before departure. Florence (Amerigo Vespucci Airport FLR) is the next most suitable option, approx. 2 hours drive to Terre di Nano. Pisa (Galileo Galilei Airport PSA) is approx. 2 hours 30 mins drive to Terre di Nano. Rome (Rome Fiumicino FCO) is approx. 2 hours 30 mins drive to Terre di Nano.
  • What are your flight suggestions?
British Airways fly Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sundays from Heathrow to Perugia. Our suggestion is as below: Outbound - Thursday 12th June Heathrow 2:15 pm Perugia 5:40 pm Inbound - Thursday 19th June Perugia 6:25 pm Heathrow 7.45pm (If you have previously assessed flights, you may have noticed that BA have cancelled the Tuesday flights - whether they will have demand to relaunch these flights, who knows). Flying BA from London City, Stansted or London Heathrow to Florence offers more flexibility but at a higher cost, yet there are flights most days - so if you are considering making it a short trip: Outbound - Friday 13th June Heathrow 8:10am Florence 11:30am Inbound - Monday 16th June Florence 12:45 pm Heathrow 2:10 pm Other close options: Vueling flies from Gatwick to Florence/Rome Ryanair flies from Stansted to Perugia Easyjet flies from Bristol to Pisa/Rome
  • Or make it a longer trip...
Fly to Bournemouth to Venice Train from Venice to Florence Train from Florence to Siena Drive from Siena to Terre di Nano (Montepulciano) The nearest train station to Montepulciano is Chiusi-Chianciano Terme which is still a 40 minute drive to the venue.
  • What about a flight group booking?
We did consider doing a group booking for the flight we were booking, but BA have cancelled the Tuesday flights now! So those that were considering Thursday 12th to Tuesday 19th, if you still wanted to return around then, your best option is to return via Florence. With new flight days now being Thursday 12th to Thursday 19th via Heathrow & Perugia, we requested an update to our group booking quotation, and it only saved each person £10 based on 20 passengers. Therefore, we have taken the decision not to proceed with this option currently, for £10, we decided it would be preferential for guests to organise their own flight options, so they can handle their baggage and check-ins online and have control over their own booking.
  • General
There is limited transport in the area and therefore if you are not staying at the venue, it is strongly recommended to ensure transport has been prebooked to return to your accommodation. Recommended transport providers are listed below. Please contact them if you need specific assistance getting to and from your accommodation, should you not be hiring a car. Some also offer tours and alternative transport, such as hot air balloon tours... unfortunately, Doug won't be persuaded to go in a hot air balloon! www.italianstyle-srl.it Claudio Dell’Artino italianstyle.srl@gmail.com www.mencattelli.it www.miralaghiviaggi.it/servizio-ncc
  • Getting to and from the Ceremony location
For those staying at Terre di Nano (and those attending the pre-wedding lunch), transport will be organised to take our guests from Terre di Nano, to Montepulciano and return. Approximately 3:00 pm collection, returning at approx. 5:30 pm. You are welcome to utilise your own transport to and from if you prefer. Terre di Nano has ample parking. There is plenty of free parking outside the walls of Montelpulciano. Please do not park inside the walls of Montepulciano, there is a ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) in force, as in many of the historic towns and cities, to limit traffic. Please indicate on your RSVP if you require wedding day transport, to and from the ceremony.
  • Car Hire
We would strongly suggest hiring a car to explore Tuscany, many locations are remote and are hilltop towns. Whilst you can catch buses and book taxi's, greater attention to detail is required in organising your time in Tuscany. Perugia is a very small airport, smaller than Bournemouth. Car rentals are available with ease and just a 30 second walk from 'arrivals'. Europcar is available, along with SIXT.
  • ZTL - Zona a Traffico Limitato / Limited Traffic Area
This is an area in the centre of Italian cities and towns where traffic is restricted. They don't exist everywhere in Italy, but they are fairly common and if you're visiting one of the main cities, such as Florence, Pisa or Rome, for instance, it's fair to assume a ZTL exist. On occassions, if your accommodation is in a ZTL zone, you can request your hotel to register your car with the local authorities during your stay, which is usually free, but double check and make sure, it may also mean you can only drive to and from the hotel car park or to drop off luggage. Some hotels will provide you with a permit to print out before your arrival which is to enable you to drop off your luggage first, then you can drive to a car park.
  • Trains
Trains are on-time, efficient and comfortable. You will need your passport with you to travel via train, as frequent checks are carried out. Train tickets also need "validating", which many of the counters will do for you, or you can look out for the machines in the stations.
  • General
There is plenty of accommodation in the area, but few hotels, more private villas, or B&Bs.
